Designing roof systems with proper snow retention and deicing systems to support the snow loads and temperature ranges in the Colorado Front Range and Mountain Regions

IIBEC Colorado 2023 Scholarship – University of Colorado, Boulder
The IIBEC Colorado Chapter is pleased to announce the 2023 scholarship recipient is Bella Lee. Bella is currently an Architectural Engineering student at the University of Colorado Boulder.
The IIBEC Colorado Chapter annual scholarship requires the applicant to submit an essay explaining their career goals and interest in their field of study, a completed application and a letter of recommendation from a professor or mentor.
Scholarships are donated to a university student in relevant fields of architecture; structural, civil engineering; construction management; or other related areas of study. Scholarship money is generated through Chapter memberships, sponsorships, and especially from the Annual “Late Summer” Golf Outing and Sporting Clay Tournament.
The IIBEC Colorado chapter goal is to add a second scholarship in 2024.

Board of Directors Attends 2021 IIBEC Convention, Presents Foundation with Chapter Donation
Representatives from the Colorado Chapter Board of Directors attended the 2021 IIBEC Convention in person in Phoenix, Arizona in September. During the three-day education offerings, the Board attended educational sessions, networked with Chapter members, presented Chapter updates at the Region V meeting, and presented the IIBEC Foundation with a check for $1,500 to benefit the student convention attendee scholarship fund at the evening of the Silent Auction. Colorado Chapter beats the heat with presentation on snow retention systems
The Colorado Chapter was pleased to present virtual education of 1.5 CEH’s discussing Snow Retention Systems presented by Lars Walberg of Rocky Mountain Snow Guards, Inc. Twelve attendees learned the difference between snow guards, snow rails, and snow bars. We also learned about design considerations for snow retention systems on the roofs and how geographical weather trends and snow loads affect the design. Thanks Lars for the informative session!
